Your Challenge

As an Automation & Controls Specialist, you play a key role in ensuring the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of all automated systems at our Seaport Canaveral Fuel Storage Facility in Cape Canaveral, Florida.

You will focus on the integration, maintenance, and optimization of industrial control systems (ICS), with a strong emphasis on process safety, regulatory compliance, and cybersecurity. In this role, you are the go-to person for OT networks, automation, and cybersecurity, coordinating all contractor and third-party activities in this field.

Your Responsibilities

Automation & Control Systems

  • Design, program, and maintain PLC, DCS, and SCADA systems to support chemical process control.
  • Integrate sensors, actuators, and instrumentation for real-time process monitoring.
  • Implement automation strategies to enhance safety, reduce downtime, and optimize performance.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and troubleshoot issues in a 24/7/365 operating environment.
  • Source and manage parts and supplies for maintenance and critical operations.

Process Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and industry safety standards (NFPA/ISA-84).
  • Contribute automation expertise to HAZOP and LOPA studies.
  • Maintain accurate documentation for audits and regulatory inspections.

Project Coordination & Strategic Planning

  • Lead OT-related projects, including creating project plans, schedules, and budgets.
  • Prepare Scopes of Work (SOW)RFQs, and support 5-year budget planning.
  • Oversee OT network change management in alignment with corporate IT and cybersecurity policies.

Cybersecurity & System Integrity

  • Serve as the Cybersecurity Focal Point for the facility (training provided).
  • Collaborate with the corporate IT team to ensure secure and compliant operations.

Troubleshooting & Support

  • Diagnose and resolve control system and field device issues.
  • Train operations and maintenance teams on automation systems.

What You Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Automation, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in automation within the chemical or oil & gas industries.
  • Strong knowledge of chemical process control, instrumentation, and automation.
  • Experience with industrial protocols (e.g., MODBUS, OPC, Profibus) and programming languages such as ladder logic or structured text.
  • Exposure to systems such as ATLAS, Toptech TMS, Dispel, Tank Master, Load Rack, and SCADA is a plus.
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and documentation skills.
  • A strong team player mentality with attention to detail and safety.

Work Environment

  • On-site role at Seaport Canaveral with exposure to hazardous materials.
  • PPE and safety training are required.
  • On-call support during critical operations (primarily remote support when necessary).
  • Position is 40% field-based / 60% office-based, with occasional call-outs for troubleshooting and emergency response.
